The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 abroad and around ₦2.5 million from Nigerian sellers. The Pro Max is quoted near ₦2.9 million, and 512GB Pro Max stock has been quoted at ₦3.4 million.

Before you commit that much, it is worth asking a simple question: which parts of a flagship do you actually use? For most people the honest answer is the camera, the battery and the fact that it never feels slow — and all three are available far cheaper.

Price note: Nigerian iPhone figures are retailer estimates dated 10 September 2026. Prices on our own phone pages are checked against Nigerian retailers and updated regularly.

Start with your priority, not a price

This is the part most buying guides get wrong. Do not shop for "the best phone under X". Shop for the best phone in the one thing you do most.

If the camera is why you wanted the Pro — Apple's headline feature this year is variable aperture, six laser-cut blades moving between ƒ/1.48 and ƒ/4. That is genuinely new hardware, and no mid-range phone matches it in low light. But for daylight photos, family pictures and social media, the gap is much smaller than the price gap. Start with best camera phones in Nigeria.

If battery life is why — Apple quotes up to 36 hours video playback on the Pro. Impressive, but big-battery phones in our range do a full day of heavy Nigerian use comfortably, and many charge fast too. See best battery life phones.

If speed is why — the A20 Pro is the fastest thing Apple has built. But WhatsApp, Instagram, banking apps and YouTube do not need it. What you need is a phone that does not stutter in two years, which means adequate RAM and a decent chip. See best performance phones.

If storage is why — the Pro starts at 256GB and has no memory-card slot. Many phones in our range offer generous built-in storage and a card slot, so you can expand later. See best big storage phones.

If 5G is why — see best 5G phones, where we only mark 5G when it is verified.

What you give up, stated honestly

Several smartphones in a row with colourful screens

We are not going to pretend there is no difference:

  • Low-light photography and video. This is the clearest flagship advantage.
  • Sustained performance. The 18 Pro's new vapour chamber, with triple the surface area, keeps it fast when hot. Cheaper phones throttle sooner.
  • Long software support. Apple supports iPhones for many years.
  • Resale value. iPhones hold value better in the Nigerian market.
  • Status. Real, and worth naming rather than pretending otherwise.

What you gain

  • ₦2 million or more still in your pocket
  • A phone that is in Nigeria today, not on a pre-order deposit
  • A SIM tray you can count on. Apple's eSIM-only models have no tray and are not sold for Nigeria — see the SIM question
  • Repairs you can afford. One Pro-series screen replacement can cost more than an entire good mid-range phone
  • A local seller, a receipt and a returns policy, rather than importer risk
  • No import maths. See what importing really costs

Three sensible budget bands

Up to ₦200,000 — a genuinely good everyday phone: reliable calls, WhatsApp, social media, banking, decent photos and strong battery life. Browse phones under ₦200,000.

₦200,000 to ₦300,000 — better cameras, more storage, smoother screens and stronger chips. This is the value sweet spot in Nigeria right now. Browse phones under ₦300,000.

₦300,000 to ₦500,000 — near-flagship territory. Strong cameras, fast charging, plenty of storage, often 5G. Browse phones under ₦400,000 and under ₦500,000.

Every phone across those pages costs less than a fifth of an iPhone 18 Pro Max — and several together still would not reach it.

If it must be an iPhone

That is a legitimate preference. Two cheaper routes:

  1. Buy the previous generation. The moment a new Pro lands, older Pro models get cheaper. Read 18 Pro vs 17 Pro and 18 Pro vs 16 Pro to see what you would actually miss.
  2. Buy carefully second-hand. Understand the category first: UK used prices and how to spot a fake or refurbished unit.
